Cody Sheffield, a junior at Canton Academy and a member of the Canton Academy band, recently auditioned for the Mississippi Lion’s Band. Over 1000 Mississippi students tried out for a spot in the 145 member troop. Out of 75 trombone players who auditioned, Cody was one of 16 trombone players selected to participate in the band.
As a member of The Mississippi Lion’s band, Cody will travel this summer to compete in the International Lion’s Band competition which is being held in Australia. The Mississippi Lion’s Band has won the international competition 27 times, including last year and five straight competitions between 2003 – 2007. Canton has not had a representative in this band for 30 years.
