2010 Corey Yeates sets the State record in hurdles. 15.36 seconds
Michael Jerome hands off to fellow senior Mackey Simpson in the 400m Relay at Washington School at their General Relays on Saturday, March 27, 2010. The Panthers had a good showing as they prepare for the District 3-AA Championship at Canton Academy on Friday, April 16. The Panthers and Lady Panthers bring home District Championships in dominating fashion. Friday, April 16th, both Panther teams came out of the gate and never looked back. ***Elementary Track season is over. We'll post next springs dates late in the fall of 2010.
**A special thanks to Adcamp and Ralph Barnes, Charlie Haley, & Clyde Edwards for help with the track renovation. It looks fantastic. I also want to thank Canton Concrete for their support of Canton Academy Athletics.
The Panthers have had decent showings in their last couple of track meets. Saturday, March 27, the Panthers traveled to Greenville for the General Relays at Washington School. The times weren't very good for all schools due to a 20 mph headwind. However, the conditioning was badly needed for the Panthers coming off a 22 day layoff. Haley Kuhn shined in the hurdles for the Junior Varsity Lady Panthers winning the 100m lows. Corey Yeates had a decent day in the 100m lows, the 100 dash, and the 200m dash.
Wednesday, March 31, the Panthers traveled to Hattiesburg for a meet hosted by Presbyterian Christian School. Their facility is as nice as I have ever seen. It was a warm, beautiful day, and I think that may have sapped our runners a bit. The Panthers and Lady Panthers both performed well and ran extremely hard though. We had some Personal Records for some of our athletes. Sophomore Nathan Simpson placed second in the Pole Vault with tying his best at 10'06". Nathan realistically has a shot at getting close to 12'00" by years end. Michael Jerome won the 110m highs with his best time of the year of 18.01 seconds. We're hoping to get him down to the low 16's or even into the 15's by years end. We did have some muscle tweaks, and we're hoping to have everyone back to full speed for Saturday's Rotary Track meet sponsored by the Canton Rotary Club on Saturday, April 10. We will combine the J.V. District 3-AA into this meet. Varsity District is the following Friday, April 16. District 4-AA will double up with us for some exciting track action.

Haley Kuhn shows perfect form on her way to winning the 100m low hurdles in the Junior High Division at the General Relays at Washington School on Saturday, March 27, 2010. This picture was just too funny not to post. I honestly don't know what this kid from Heritage is doing...I'm guessing the 1600m Relay got the best of him. Michael Hutton races onward anchoring the J.V. Panthers' mile relay team.
